User Specific Prevention Procedures: Hunters Waterfowl hunters should be aware that it is possible to inadvertently spread aquatic nuisance species from a contaminated lake or wetland via boats, motors, trailers, waders, dogs and decoys. Assume that all aquatic plant fragments are potentially harmful and should not be moved between different bodies of water. Before the hunting season Switch to bulb-shaped, or strap anchors on decoys since they won't collect submersed or floating plants as easily. Clean boats, particularly if moored in waters known to contain Zebra Mussels. Between hunting trips and after the hunting season Follow the boater guidelines Inspect and remove mud, aquatic plants and animals from decoys, hunting dogs and anything that came in contact with water. Eliminate water from decoys, boat, motor etc. Follow cleaning tips in the General Prevention Procedures section.

User Specific Prevention Procedures: Dog Owners Many dog owners take their dog down to the water for a swim, to retrieve or to just have fun playing in the water. Dogs can pick up weeds, larvae, and other things that could be potentially harmful when you go to another body of water. Check dog's body including feet, coat, and color for any visible mud, plants, or animals and remove. Wash your dog with clean water. Brush your dog's coat.
