Help Stop Aquatic Hitchhikers!
July 02, 2007
--
As the Fourth of July approaches, the Iowa DNR is asking boaters and anglers to take a minute to check for any unwanted hitchhikers and protect Iowa lakes and streams. Read the following two articles to get the details.
"Boaters and anglers can do their part to help stop the spread of aquatic invasive species to the state’s waterbodies by taking a few simple steps each time when leaving a lake or river."
"Zebra mussels, plants like Eurasian watermilfoil and curly-leafed pond weed, and fish such as big-head carp and silver carp are the reason Iowa officials are ramping up education efforts."
The Stop Aquatic Hitchhikers web site is part of the
ANS Task Force
public
awareness campaign and is sponsored by the
U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service
and the
U.S. Coast Guard
