Didymo Video Clip
June 06, 2006 -- Didymo is the latest aquatic invasive species to create negative impacts on aquatic resources around the world. Known as "Rock Snot," this invasive algae is a good example of how an aquatic invasive species can be ecologically damaging as well as aestethically unpleasing.
This invader has taken the country of New Zealand by storm, negatively impacting some of its most popular kayaking and fishing rivers, and it threatens the cold-water streams in North America.
Recently, the first global scientific conference on Didymo was held in Bozeman, Montana in conjunction with the annual meeting of the Western Division of the American Fisheries Society. Didymo has been found throughout the U.S. in coldwater streams of South Dakota, Montana and the White River systems of Arkansas.
