Reversing the Chicago River Revisited as Asian Carp Worries Grow

July 14, 2010 -- An unthinkably difficult and costly idea has been getting a lot of consideration lately, especially after a live Asian carp was found recently just outside Lake Michigan, miles past the electric barriers that were supposed to stop the voracious fish at Lockport.

Should Chicago waterways be separated from their connection to the Mississippi River, effectively reversing the Chicago River again to block invasive species? Read the full story to get the details.

"You have to decide where to separate" Chicago's waterways from Lake Michigan, says Dick Lanyon, executive director of the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago. "From that decision other decisions would flow."
