Will They Poison Lake Calumet?

July 06, 2010 -- I can't deny that I am concerned about the bighead carp that was found in Lake Calumet last month.

I've fished the Calumet River and Lake Calumet for nearly 20 years, going back to when the river was just a budding bass fishery. As more anglers found that bass were there, it grew quickly to be a close-to-home bass hot spot. Read the full story to get the details.

"The good news is that based on our extensive sampling since February, Asian carp appear to be present in the Chicago waterway system only in very low numbers," Rogner said. "And the part of the Little Calumet River we treated with rotenone in May is repopulating with fish nicely on its own, based on our recent electro-fishing results."
