Young Zebra Mussel Found in North Dakota

July 06, 2010 -- orth Dakota wildlife officials say a young zebra mussel has been found in the Red River, between Wahpeton and neighboring Breckenridge, Minn.

The aquatic nuisance species has been found in many other states including Minnesota, and officials have been bracing for it to surface in North Dakota. Read the following two articles to get the details.

"Lynn Schlueter, the Game and Fish Department's aquatic nuisance species coordinator, says officials are disappointed but not surprised by the discovery of what is known as a veliger."

"Laws already are in place to prevent the spread of nuisance species. They include cleaning boats before moving them."
